Day 5 ........Chefchaouen to the Wilderness Camp

Himself went to the morning meeting by himself, my cold having taken a turn for the worse.

On the road again through the Rif mountains, but stopping after about an hour by the side of the road for a coffee break.  There was a steep drop down to a busy pebbly stream and lovely views across to the hillside where a few sheep were grazing.  A Berber woman was hiding in the shrubbery along from us, watching her goats.

We were soon off again, much later, stopping for lunch at a large filling station with a butchers stalls attached selling fresh meat which after being chosen was taken away and cooked and then served up at tables in the garden area.  Lamb chops and a dish of meat balls accompanied by fresh bread and a fresh orange drink.  It really was very warm for February.

On the road again and straight to the overnight camp.  We stopped in a forested area just off the road under some pine trees covered in 'processional caterpillar nests'.  Went for a short walk down to the stream and saw the first wild asphodels.  Ethereal looking plants with their pretty white flowers.
As the light was beginning to fade, donkeys began to pass by heading into the forest, their panniers weighed down with grasses and plants with beautiful small purple flowers which stood out in the fading light.

A local, selling produce.

We were asleep not long after 8pm missing the camper's fire and hot potatoes but didn't sleep well due to our proximity to the busy road and the noise of the dogs barking.
