Day 3.........Martil to Chefchaouen

Awoken this morning at 6 am to the sound of the Muezzin calling the faithful to Prayer.    The sound was musical and eery to unacustomed ears.   The sound of Morocco.  Snuggled back down to sleep some more.

8 am.... Steve,  the tours second in command, brought us some local bread, flat, round and sweetish and which needs to be eaten fresh.

9.30 ... Back on the road.  The scenery, once out of town, is reminiscent of the Alpujarras and  North Yorkshire even .. streams running over smooth pebbles and stones large & small, also, especially, the East African highlands.

1.45pm...... arrived at Chefchaouen, 600 m above sea level.... Camping Azillan....on the hill above the town. 700 m+ above sea level.

Two mountains, Meggou and Tisouka, tower above the City.
A couple of the larger motorhomes had difficulty in accessing the road up to the camp - they are really far too big for touring in Morocco.
Went to check out the 'facilities' but decided to use the van's 'facilities' instead.
Snacked on paté and crackers.

We're all getting to know each other, a few keeping themselves to themselves and one woman who just can't stop talking.   Writing this waiting for the 2 pm meeting with another talk by tour leader Ray.
Later....Oooops, someone who has lived in the middle east isn't a happy bunny.

Soon after, we walked down the hill through the old town gate, down and down and down, along with the permanent campers, getting thoroughly lost and it was a very steep climb back up to the main square led by a young chappy who took us on a very merry dance so as he could pass by his uncle's, brother's, father's......shop.     Sat down and had a much need refreshment and a rest before walking over to the museum in the old Kasbah.

Lovely view from the top of the tower. Also, we saw an enticing junk collection in the side street so reaching ground level, went around to investigate. Found a couple of lovely old 'rejas'.
Wandered around a bit seeing  everything then eventually getting a taxi back to the camp. Only 15 dirhams about  euros 1.50 that is.

It was another early night.
